Remember the black vultures spotted congregating in the gallow's oak?
Well, they'll have to find another tree. That one is coming down. It's dead, and the local authorities have determined that it endangers life, limb, property, and powerlines.
Fifteen men; six trucks; several chippers; one crane with cherry-picker attachment and assorted ropes, chains, chain-saws and other cutting implements and the vulture tree can be expected to capitulate by the end of the day.
Meanwhile, the road is closed. And the dog sleeps on.
On another note, despair not, as there are still black corvids a-plenty! They show up in gangs of tens of thousands and turn the leaf mulch. Obliging of them, wouldn't you say? Here, look at a close-up. These guys really work wingtip to wingtip!
The day after Luther's play date with dog-pal Rocket he isn't doing so well.
He binged on running, leaping, tugging, wrassling, digging, biting, chasing, tackling, and took no rest. Did I mention running?
Poor guy.
He's laid low on his dog bed. And calling Rocket bad names for tempting him to overindulgence. No, he's not really enjoying the fire. He's merely tolerating it. Which you can see if you look into his eyes.Poor guy.
Well, after the snow from last week went bye-bye (while I was in warmer climes m'self) I discovered yesterday that the front passenger wheel (which I thought was just hidden behind a mound of snow) was actually flat.
Real flat.
My aging vehicle took a trip via flat-bed to the local tire store. There, I learned that tires for my aging darling are not easy to come by. He now sports a new set of Yokahama's [Yoka-who's?!] as the best tires I was able easily to find in stock and not on special order and available in a month. Maybe. Yippee!
Meanwhile, this morning brought us more snow. And sun! If sun during rain is a sun shower, is sun during snow a sunfall? I like it: sunfall.
It's my birthday and it feels like Abba has sent some frosting for my cake. Very nice indeed. Thank you!
Here (below) is the song for the day - my new favorite. [Please ignore the very strange dancing woman in the hat] By the way, this is the same group I discovered when I was looking for the Christmas song "I Saw Three Ships" and posted here. Turns out that the guitarist is the same man who founded of Deep Purple (of Smoke on the Water fame). Ritchie Blackmore. I am not making this up.
Well, whatever. It's a beautiful song. Perfect for the day!
Twelve-plus acres of green woods being transformed into the greenwood kingdom. Philosophical, theological, practical, and aesthetical considerations of making a home and haven in the woods to house, feed, inspire and amuse the greenwood king, queen and other weary wanderers and assorted livestock.
Lots of people have said they wanted to leave a comment, but that they didn't want to "sign up" for something first. . . . You don't have to sign up for anything. Click 'Comments'; scroll down past "choose an identity" and click the "name/URL" box and type in whatever name you'd like to use to sign your comment. "Bob" or "Wingding" or "Auntie Em" - whatever! You can even check the "Anonymous" box if you must but I like it better to have a name to go by. You don't have to put in a URL address. Just let me know you dropped by!
